How does it work?

How Does SneakPeek Work?

While every person has their own DNA in their bloodstream, your bloodstream also contains DNA from your unborn child. SneakPeek looks for male chromosomes in a small sample of your blood. If male chromosomes are found, that means your baby is male. If none are found, your baby is a female. This is the same technology as the NIPT test that may be offered to you later in pregnancy by your maternity provider for other purposes. Due to this, SneakPeek is 99.9% accurate at 6 weeks into pregnancy.

What is the SneakPeek Process?

independent midwife in Liverpool and Manchester

At SneakPeek Labs, a test process called non-invasive prenatal testing (NIPT) is used to analyze cell-free fetal DNA. Starting with a small sample of blood from mum, plasma is separated from whole blood by centrifuge, and extracted cell-free fetal DNA (cffDNA) is analyzed for Y chromosomes, which are found only in males. The SneakPeek test is sensitive enough to find even a single Y chromosome, giving you confidence in your results.

2) It is the most accurate way to find out the gender of your baby

We know that for many families finding out the gender of their baby is a really important part of celebrating their pregnancy. With this in mind we have chosen to use the SneakPeek blood test. SneakPeek is the most accurate way to find out the gender of your baby (99.9% accurate), which is even more accurate than an ultrasound scan (90.4% accurate).

3) A clinic test is more accurate than a home testing kit

The accuracy of the blood test is increased even more when you visit our clinic as there is no risk that the sample could be contaminated. Contamination can happen with home testing kits, due to exposure to the environment, but this cannot happen if blood is taken in the clinic. When you take the sample yourself, errors are more likely to occur, such as contamination (even a male pets DNA can potentially affect your sample).

  4) You are less likely to get an invalid result.

When you do a home blood sample there is a risk that you may not obtain a large enough sample, which would result in an invalid test result. You would therefore have to repeat the test and wait even longer for your results. At our clinic, we will ensure that your sample is large enough to be accurately processed.

5) Faster results.

Your sample will be sent off the very same day that it is taken. Therefore, you will have your result within 3-4 days. No waiting for home tests to be delivered! Just book into a clinic and find out the same week!

 Frequently asked Questions

How are my results given to me?

You can choose from 3 options: 1. You’ll get an email from sneakpeekresults@sneakpeektest.com with the subject line “Your SneakPeek Result Is In!”. Be sure to check all your folders including Promotions and Junk Mail in case your email filter redirects it, or use your email search tool bar to search for "sneakpeekresults." 2. You can provide an email for a friend or family member of your choice who will receive the results on your behalf from sneakpeekresults@sneakpeektest.com with the subject line “Your SneakPeek Result Is In!”. Be sure to remind them to check all their folders including Promotions and Junk Mail in case the email filter redirects it, or use the email search tool bar to search for "sneakpeekresults." 3. We can receive your results for you and forward them to a gender reveal company so that everyone gets a surprise at the same time.

I am more than 6 weeks pregnant, can I still use SneakPeek?

Yes! SneakPeek is accurate from 6 weeks after the first day of your last menstrual period. You can use it anytime up to giving birth as after 6 weeks into the pregnancy your babies DNA will always be in your blood stream.

Is SneakPeek more accurate than an ultrasound scan?

YES! SneakPeek is consistently 99.9% accurate from as little as 6 weeks into the pregnancy. Ultra-sound accuracy varies depending on the person performing the scan and the quality of the scan machine used but it is approximately 90.1% accurate after 14 weeks into the pregnancy. The accuracy of a scan will increase as the baby gets bigger but SneakPeek remains 99.9% accurate throughout the pregnancy.

I’m having twins, can you determine the gender of each one?

SneakPeek looks for male DNA in the fetal DNA found in your blood sample. In the case of identical twins, if male DNA is found, then both babies are boys. If no male DNA is found, then both babies are girls. For fraternal (none identical) twins, finding male DNA means at least one baby is a boy, but cannot distinguish if the second is a boy or girl.

Does a previous miscarriage affect my results?

Clinical studies have shown that fetal DNA clears rapidly from the maternal bloodstream, within 1-2 days. Therefore, a miscarriage will not affect your current test results.

I previously had a boy; will this affect my results?

Clinical studies have shown that fetal DNA is undetectable in mom’s bloodstream between 1 to 2 days after birth. Therefore, a previous male-bearing pregnancy will not affect your current test results.

What is the diference between a SneakPeek blood test and a urine gender test?

SneakPeek is a DNA test that looks for male chromosomes in the cell-free fetal DNA (cffDNA) found in your blood, a process that was first established in 1997 and refined in a multitude of scientific publications since. Urine-based tests have no scientific validity, as there are no gender markers in urine.

Is the test safe?

The SneakPeek Early Gender DNA Test is a non-invasive prenatal test (NIPT), and it's safe for both you and your baby.

Is SneakPeek a pregnancy test?

SneakPeek cannot confirm pregnancy. The test looks for male chromosomes in the fetal DNA found in your blood. If there is no fetal DNA in your blood, the test will return a girl result, because you have female DNA. On the off-chance that the test is contaminated with outside male DNA (even pets!), it may return a boy result. Please confirm pregnancy with your doctor prior to taking SneakPeek.

Why is SneakPeek gender 99.9% accurate?

Our previous studies used the gender of the baby determined by the 2nd trimester anatomy ultrasound to compare SneakPeek Gender results. While anatomy ultrasound sonograms are generally considered to be accurate, like any method other than live birth, they also have an error rate. Our most recent study uses sex at live birth as its confirmation method, the only accurate method, and found that the SneakPeek Early Gender DNA Test results matched 99.9% of the time. The incorrect gender was given in only 1 result out of 1,029 live births.

Does taking progesterone or any other medication affect my blood results?

SneakPeek is a DNA-based test, so hormone medications and fluctuations have no impact on results. No drugs are known to impact SneakPeek gender results.

Can I take the SneakPeek blood test if I am breastfeeding?

SneakPeek is a DNA-based test that looks for male chromosomes in the fetal DNA found in your blood. Therefore, hormonal changes such as those caused by breastfeeding do not impact SneakPeek test results.

Can I track my sample?

Yes! SneakPeek includes tracking and you will be given a tracking number at your appointment.

I can’t find my results, what should I do?

Your test results will be sent to the email address you provided and it will come from sneakpeekresults@sneakpeektest.com. Try typing "sneakpeekresults" into your email search tool bar to find your Results email. If your test results haven't arrived within 5 days, contact us and we'll research this further.

What if my sample results are inconclusive?

We've got you! Because inconclusive results can happen with any type of lab testing, we'll repeat the test completely free of charge.

Why would a sample result be inconclusive?

First, we assure you this doesn't mean anything is wrong! We may just need a second look. When we send an inconclusive sample update email, it's because our team wasn't able to pull enough total DNA from your first vial to tell. We always have two SneakPeek lab technicians process samples, so we'll only ask for a retest if we're 100% sure the first vial didn't yeild enough total DNA info to tell one way or the other. Here are some reasons we may not have been able to pull enough total DNA to confirm a boy or girl result with the first try: • The sample may have clotted (some clotting is normal, though a bit of extra clotting throughout the vial may make it tricky for us to separate the DNA to analyze fully). • Our 30 day preservative solution may not have distributed enough to get into all of the nooks and crannies in your vial after closing the tube up and mixing (for any sample, the best way to mix after shutting the tube fully is by rotating the sample gently starting from all the way upside down to all the way right-side up ten times). • The sample may have had a slightly lower volume (If you collected a volume smaller than the 500?l we ask for, please still send this in! Most smaller samples are still successfully processed). • There may have been a very small amount of contamination during collection and we want a second peek for accuracy. Us having confidence in your result is just as important to us as it is to you! • By chance, your sample may have just not gotten to us with enough total DNA! This happens every once in a while with a collection and a retest almost always does the trick.
